Eligibility
You are eligible to take part in an Erasmus+ exchange if you satisfy the following conditions:
- You must be an eligible SETU student who is currently enrolled in a formal higher education programme that leads to a degree or diploma.
- Any SETU registered student can take part once the mobility has been approved by their academic department.
- You must have successfully completed at least one year of your academic studies.
What countries are involved
There are a total of 33 countries taking part, including:
- the 27 Member States of the European Union
- the three European Free Trade Association countries (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway)
- Acceding countries, candidate countries and potential candidates: (North Macedonia, Republic of Serbia, and Republic of Turkiye)
Which universities can I go to
- SETU must have an Erasmus+ Inter-Institutional Agreement with the host Institute before a study exchange can take place. For a full list see our Partner Universities section of our website.
- Traineeships do not need to have an Erasmus+ Inter-Institutional Agreement in place, but they must sign up to the Erasmus+ documentation issued by SETU.
Are my grades recognised
As a matter of principle, the time spent in the host country must be fully recognised by the home institution. The European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) is the major instrument to facilitate academic recognition of periods of study in partner establishments. Recognition is given for the study period abroad by SETU. A Learning Agreement developed between you and your academic department is a contract between you, SETU and your host institution that indicates precisely what modules you will be taking abroad.
For Traineeship mobilities, recognition is given for your traineeship abroad by SETU. Again, a Traineeship Learning Agreement developed between you, your academic department and the host employer is a contract between you, SETU and your host employer, that indicates precisely what your tasks will be, throughout your traineeship.
Is funding available
Yes! All students taking part in an Erasmus+ Mobility exchange will receive an Erasmus+ grant. This is in addition to any other grants you may be in receipt of.
The Erasmus+ "mobility" grant is intended to help cover the cost of travelling and the difference in the cost of living, between Ireland and the host country.
Please note: If the length of your studies/traineeship changes, then so will your grant amount!
Can I work while I am studying elsewhere
Any EU Citizen has access to the same working rights and conditions in a host EU country. Students from countries outside of the EU may need to check with the local host embassy or consulate for up-to-date information on working eligibility.
