SETU graduates and alumni may be eligible to register to vote in Seanad Éireann elections through the six-seat Higher Education constituency.
Who Can Register?
You can register if you:
- Hold a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree from SETU or one of its legacy institutions.
- Are an Irish citizen.
- Are 18 years of age or older.
- Meet the eligibility requirements set out by the Central Registration Authority.
About the Higher Education Constituency
The Higher Education constituency was established under the Seanad Electoral (University Members) (Amendment) Act 2024. It replaces the former National University of Ireland (NUI) and University of Dublin (Trinity College) Seanad constituencies.
Voters registered in this constituency elect six Senators to Seanad Éireann. The Register of Electors is updated annually and managed by the Central Registration Authority through SeanadVoter.ie.

To be eligible to register, you must hold a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or doctoral degree from a designated institution.
Certificates, diplomas, higher diplomas, national diplomas, and postgraduate diplomas do not fulfil this requirement.

The previous National University of Ireland (NUI) and University of Dublin (Trinity College) constituencies are no longer in use and have been replaced with a new six-seat Higher Education constituency. This is the Seanad Éireann Higher Education constituency, and its purpose is to elect university members to Seanad Éireann. This was established by the Seanad Éireann Electoral (University Members) Act 2024.
SeanadVoter.ie is the registration authority responsible for managing registrations for this new constituency.
This means that if you did not successfully apply for the 2025 or 2026 Seanad Éireann Higher Education constituency Register of Electors, your details are not included in the 2026 Register of Electors for this constituency, which was published on 1 Jun

For proof of identity, you are asked to provide your Personal Public Service (PPS) number. If you do not, or cannot, provide a PPS number, you must provide a photo, photocopy, or scanned copy of a completed Witness form (available to download from SeanadVoter.ie).
For proof of citizenship, you are asked to provide a photo, photocopy, or scanned copy of your valid Irish passport or certificate of naturalisation. If you cannot provide a valid Irish passport or certificate of naturalisation in your application, please contact [email protected] for guidance.
