Eleanor gained her interfaculty doctorate in Old English and Celtic Studies from University College Cork (UCC) in 2007. Her studies gave her insights into oral literacy and how it shaped and informed the western literacy tradition.
She has worked in adult education for 25 years across a range of sectors, with a particular focus on adult literacy for the past 17 years. During her time as an Education and Training Board (ETB) tutor, she designed and delivered a variety of English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), literacy, and family literacy courses. She also delivered components of the Initial Literacy Tutor Training course and worked on the Refugee Resettlement Programme.
In 2020, she joined the Distance Learning team in the National Adult Literacy Agency (NALA), and later that year was appointed the family literacy project worker on NALA’s Marking Progress project. Eleanor is currently a Director on NALA's Board of Management. She is also the Chair of NALA's Education, Training, and Assessment sub-committee.
A former student of Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT), she was delighted to join the Literacy Development Centre team in August 2021.
