The Higher Certificate in Arts in Adult and Further Education is a 120 credit, NFQ Level 6 award aimed at current adult and further education and training tutors or practitioners and those wishing to pursue a career teaching or tutoring in adult basic education, further education and training (FET) and community education contexts. The programme explores theories and good practice in adult basic education and adult education and will equip participants with the knowledge, skills and competencies required to work/act as tutors, facilitators and trainers in adult basic education, FET and/or community education settings.  It is a part-time blended learning programme, with a delivery model that facilitates the working practitioner, scheduled on weekend teaching blocs.  Classes are delivered in workshop-style, where collective, collaborative and creative lerning is strongly encouraged.  Participants can apply their learning directly to their practice and share their experiences with peers and lecturers in a supportive learning environment.

  • Provide current and future adult and further education and training tutors/practitioners with the requisite skillset required for their roles;
  • Offer participants a theoretical framework in adult and further education to underpin and enhance their professional practice;
  • Enable participants to explore areas for development and to enhance the quality of their teaching and work with adult learners.
