Waterford native Jordan Casey who has an entrepreneurial background found the flagship School of Business degree provides a lot of avenues and choice.

"I've been very lucky to work with SETU-affiliated organisations and businesses and spent a lot of time in the likes of the Arclabs and TSSG." SETU student and Waterford native Jordan Casey

Apart from his studies at South East Technological (SETU) first-year Bachelor of Business (Hons) student Jordan Casey spends his time working on various business initiatives.

Since the age of 12, he has founded three successful start-ups and has been extremely lucky to be allowed to travel the world as a public speaker sharing my story and acting as an advocate or symbol for young entrepreneurship. His current project is the Teenage Entrepreneur Movement (TEM) which is a global network of young entrepreneurs which aims to create a platform where young creators can gain access to mentorship, support from partners and networking opportunities.

Choosing Waterford as a place to study

I originally come from Waterford so the lure of attending the top institute of technology in the country whilst getting to remain at home was too good to pass on. Through my previous experiences in business and technology, I've been very lucky to work with SETU-affiliated organisations and businesses and spent a lot of time in the likes of the ArcLabs and The Walton Institute. Understanding the ethos of SETU influenced my decision to stay at home.

An exceptional experience

Thus far, SETU has been an exceptional experience. I've met some amazing friends already in my short time here, have learned a vast amount from all of my modules and am very lucky to be working on the institute on an upcoming project. I'm very excited to continue my studies here.

The beginning of a new phase in life

It was certainly a wake-up call being offered a place in college. It made me realise that this was real, school was finished and this was the beginning of my adult life.

Advice to students considering my course

I would say that if you're driven and motivated to put in the work and get things done, then you will succeed in this course. I would recommend this course to anybody who doesn't want to travel down a narrow path in their studies and wants to keep their options open. This course is so unique as it provides a lot of avenues and choices and was a huge incentive in my decision to choose the course.

Waterford city as a home for students

I've lived in Waterford my whole life. I love it because, for me, it provides the best of both worlds. It provides the comfort and compactness of living in a small town with the facilities, leisure activities and opportunities of a bustling city. The social life here is amazing, I've met so many new friends during my short time here so far. Some from Waterford, and others from all over the country. Student nights are always a highlight and the choice here in Waterford is immense. The college itself provides an array of social activities and clubs and the  SETU SU is hugely influential in providing a safe environment.
