South East Technological University (SETU) has been recognised with the Operational Excellence Award in Third Level Education at the 2026 Operational Excellence Awards, celebrating the University's commitment to innovation, collaboration, and inclusive practice.
Inclusive education
The award acknowledges the success of SETU's inclusive education initiatives delivered through the HEA funded PATH 4 Phase 2 project, the Certificate in Personal Development and the Certificate in Applied Skills Development programmes.
These programmes provide meaningful opportunities for students with intellectual disabilities to access higher education, develop new skills, build confidence, and participate fully in university life.
The award recognises the collaborative efforts of staff across multiple departments and campuses who have worked together to create accessible and supportive learning environments. Through strong partnerships and a shared commitment to inclusion, SETU continues to widen participation and remove barriers to higher education.
Operational excellence
Speaking about the achievement, Dr Catherine Kelly-Mason highlighted that operational excellence is demonstrated through people working together to transform opportunities into reality for students. “The recognition reflects the dedication of academic and professional staff, partner organisations, support services, families, and community networks who contribute to the success of the programmes.
“Most importantly, the award celebrates the achievements of the students themselves, whose determination, engagement, and contributions enrich campus life and demonstrate the value of inclusive education in higher education settings.”
This national recognition reinforces SETU's commitment to providing accessible educational pathways and fostering a university community where all students can thrive.
