South East Technological University (SETU) is delighted to announce the roll out of Pure across its Carlow and Wexford campuses. Pure is SETU’s research portal. It is designed to advance research performance, grow global reputation, expand funding streams, and enable collaboration both nationally and internationally.

The portal now hosts over 360 profiles of researchers across all SETU campuses. It will demonstrate SETU’s global impact with measurable indicators linked to research output and improve research perception by showcasing the University’s achievements.

Supports economic and social development of the south east.

Speaking of the importance of the roll out, Professor Veronica Campbell, President of SETU said, “Research and innovation are key activities of SETU. Centralising data on the University’s research activity via Pure ensures that SETU strategically develops its international reputation for research and innovation in support of the economic and social development of the south east region. The University aims to increase the volume, focus, and impact of its research activity consistent with the profile of a leading research-led technological university, and as the driving force behind an innovation region. We will focus on increasing the knowledge capital of the region through enhancing the excellence of our research.”

The Pure portal offers a publicly accessible, fully searchable, and navigable interface, with information drawn directly from SETU’s research management system. Fellow researchers, and potential partners, can find information about the University’s academic and postgraduate researchers, research activity, and outputs. Pure automatically pulls publication data from Elsevier’s Scopus®, the world’s largest abstract and citation database, and combines it with data from other Open Access databases, allowing researchers to find, and be found, by potential industry and academic collaborators.

Strategically plan regional research and monitor impact.

Dr Thomas O’Toole, Acting Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Graduate Studies at SETU added, “Having Pure operational and rolled out across all campuses at SETU will allow us to strategically plan our regional research activities and monitor their impact. Pure increases the efficiency and effectiveness of research information management activities at the University, providing a competitive edge in the global academic landscape.”

Dr Geraldine Canny, Head of Research at SETU stated, "I’m delighted that colleagues across all campuses can now have their public profiles featured on Pure. This showcases the diversity and excellence of our research community. In the future, funding awards will be reported on for the institution solely using Pure. This will enable the monitoring of SETU's research performance and outputs in line with the ambitions set forth in our strategic plan 2023-2025, Connecting for Impact. My sincere thanks to all involved in furthering this work.”

Demonstrate SETU’s global impact.

“Higher educational institutions operate in an increasingly complex and competitive environment. To thrive, they need data and systems that provide insights into their research. Pure aggregates research data including publications, projects, awards, media, and more, from a variety of sources onto a single, intelligent, and secure platform. This ensures data is always complete, current, correct, compliant and connected.” explained Susie Cullinane, Senior Project Coordinator and Pure Project Manager.
