A background in cultural studies and international business has encouraged SETU student Jagoda Nieckarz to consider a wider range of global career opportunities.
A graduate of the Master of Business in Internationalisation, Jagoda has built on her cultural studies background to explore emerging opportunities in international business and global organisations.
Before SETU, Jagoda completed a Bachelor’s degree in Asian and Hispanic Studies at UCC, developing a strong people-focused perspective that shapes her approach to international business.

From cultural curiosity to international direction
Jagoda chose SETU’s programme because it closely aligned with her interest in cultures and how people and societies connect across borders. The flexible one-year structure also allowed her to progress efficiently while managing other commitments.
“The programme combined everything I was interested in - cultures, people, and international environments. The flexibility of the programme made it possible to continue developing professionally while completing my Master’s in a short timeframe.”

Learning through global experience
A key highlight of the programme was the international trip abroad, which brought classroom learning into a real-world, collaborative environment.
“Working in cities like Paris and visiting Brest while completing group projects made the experience very memorable. It was a great balance of academic learning and cultural experience.”
A supportive and diverse learning environment
Jagoda describes SETU as a place that encourages students to think independently, build confidence, and develop a more adaptable mindset.
“The lecturers were friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. They always encourage us to think outside the box and create a professional but easy-going atmosphere in the classrooms. What I noticed the most is how I left SETU as a critical thinker.”

She also valued the diversity within her class, where students from different countries, ages, and professional backgrounds brought a wide range of perspectives to discussions and group work.
“The hybrid structure was a major advantage. It allowed flexibility for students balancing work and family commitments while still maintaining a high-quality learning experience. The variety in modules kept the course engaging throughout the year.”

Expanding future pathways
The programme has broadened Jagoda’s career outlook, opening doors to opportunities she had not previously considered. While she initially expected to move into marketing, she now has a growing interest in international organisations, including the United Nations, alongside roles in administration and global development.
“It expanded my thinking about what is possible,” she said. “It opened up opportunities I hadn’t considered before.”
“The lecturers were approachable and genuinely invested in helping us succeed. My classmates were friendly and collaborative. There was a real sense of community at SETU. I formed lasting friendships during both my undergraduate and postgraduate years, which made the experience more enjoyable.”
