At the recent AGM of the International Council for Canadian Studies (ICCS), held at York University Toronto, a SETU Business School lecturer was re-elected as treasurer.
John Maher, accounting and finance lecturer, was unanimously re-elected by the international delegates as treasurer for a further two years.
Over the past 30 years, Mr Maher, a Waterford native, has filled governance and stakeholder representative roles regionally, nationally, and internationally, in educational, scholarly, and financial service bodies.
A past pupil of De La Salle College, John lectures in finance and international business at graduate and undergraduate levels and currently is involved in three research projects in the financial domain.
ICCS
The ICCS is a Toronto-based higher education body that promotes the study of Canada in the humanities and social sciences. Its membership includes national associations in Europe, Asia, the Americas, Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. Each year, it awards research bursaries to enable postgraduate scholars to travel to Canada and undertake research at universities and research agencies there.
It also publishes an academic journal in partnership with the University of Toronto Press and facilitates collaboration between Canadian Studies scholars worldwide. It is a charitable body corporate under Canadian law and its patron is the Governor General of Canada.
The affiliated organisation here is the Association of Canadian Studies in Ireland (ACSI), an all-island body with Council members from SETU and six other Irish universities.
