The Certificate in Educational Leadership and Personal Development provides students with both theoretical and practical insight into different styles of educational leadership and their implications for the design and development of progressive learning environments.
Students will learn the importance of a clearly communicated and collectively shared vision and mission for the development and success of their school or educational institution. They will reflect on their own leadership philosophy and practice, and learn how to create effective, collaborative teams within their own educational setting.

This module provides students with a theoretical and practical insight into the different styles of educational leadership and the implications for the design and development of progressive learning environments. Students will learn about the importance of a clearly communicated and collectively shared vision and mission for the development and success of their school/educational institution. Students will reflect on their own leadership philosophy and practice and learn to create effective and collaborative teams within their own educational setting.
Applicants are required to have an Honours Degree (Level 8) or equivalent and be working within an educational setting.
The Certificate in Educational Leadership and Personal Development is a mandatory module on the MA in Management in Education. On successful completion of this Minor Award, graduates may choose to complete the MA in Management in Education at SETU Waterford
Upon successful completion of this module, a student will be able to:
• Demonstrate a critical understanding of educational leadership and critique these insights with reference to the relevant literature.
• Reflect upon & develop the means of using critical reflection to enhance practice as an educational leader.
• Describe and evaluate the practice of effective teamwork and collaborative practice and review the associated theory.
• Define and critique both Vision and Values and their impact upon the educational organisation.
• Identify and reflect on different conflict management styles and develop appropriate strategies to effectively manage workplace conflict.
