There are over 70 different Skillnet networks across the country under the national Skillnet Ireland organisation. The individual networks may be based on a Geographical area such as the County Wexford Skillnet; or on an industry area such as the Greentech Skillnet. The networks exist to help employers in the sector to meet the skills needs of their businesses. As part of this remit they provide part-funding of fees for a prescribed list of SETU courses. Funding rates can vary but a common rate for many courses is for the Skillnet to fund the employer for 50% of the course fee undertaken by the employee. Skillnet funding is only available to employees of commercial, non-state-funded organisations. Skillnet funding can only be drawn down through an employer – a private individual cannot receive Skillnet funding in their own right.
How do I apply?
With Skillnet funding the student / employer will typically need to:
- apply to the relevant Skillnet for the funding - which will include a check on their funding eligibility;
- then separately apply to the university for an academic place - which will include a check that they meet the course academic entry requirements.
