Dr. Mutaz Hamed Hussien Khairi
Assistant Lecturer, South East Technological University (SETU)
Dr. Mutaz Hamed Hussien Khairi is an Assistant Lecturer at SETU, specialising in electronic communication systems, electronic design, computer networks, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity. He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering (Computer Networks) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, where his research focused on machine learning–based conflict detection in software-defined networks.
His research interests include SDN, NFV, IoT security, and the application of AI and machine learning in communication networks and cybersecurity. He has published extensively in high-impact international journals and conferences and is a Senior Member of IEEE.
At SETU, he teaches Electronic Design, Operational Amplifiers and Applications, Instrumentation and Measurement, Distributed Systems, and Electrical Engineering Systems, integrating research-informed teaching with practical engineering applications.

Dr. Mutaz Hamed Hussien Khairi is a researcher in electronic communication systems, computer networks, and applied artificial intelligence at South East Technological University (SETU). His research focuses on integrating AI and machine learning techniques into modern communication networks to enhance security, efficiency, and intelligent resource management.
He obtained his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering (Computer Networks) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, where his doctoral research addressed conflict detection and classification in Software-Defined Networks (SDN) using advanced machine learning models. He proposed an enhanced Extremely Fast Decision Tree (EFDT) algorithm to improve SDN controller performance and conflict-flow detection accuracy.
Dr. Khairi has published more than 20 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers, including multiple Q1 and Q2 indexed publications in leading international venues such as IEEE Access and Sensors. His work covers SDN security, IoT cybersecurity, anomaly detection, traffic forecasting, wireless network attacks, intelligent transportation systems, and AI-driven optimisation of communication networks.
His ongoing research aims to develop secure, scalable, and intelligent next-generation network architectures using data-driven and AI-based methodologies.

Dr. Mutaz Hamed Hussien Khairi is currently an Assistant Lecturer at South East Technological University (SETU), where he contributes to teaching, programme development, and academic leadership within electronics, communication engineering, and computing disciplines.
Prior to joining SETU, he served as Senior Lecturer and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Future University (2022–2025). In this role, he provided strategic academic leadership, guided curriculum development, supervised undergraduate and postgraduate research projects, and contributed to institutional planning and quality assurance processes. He played a key role in strengthening engineering programmes and aligning them with industry and research standards.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Khairi held positions as Lecturer and Teaching Assistant at Future University and served as Director of the Center of Technical Services. In this capacity, he managed ICT infrastructure, network systems, servers, and academic digital platforms, ensuring operational efficiency, cybersecurity compliance, and institutional technology development.
Across his professional career, he has combined academic leadership, technical expertise, and research-driven innovation in electronic communication systems, computer networks, and applied artificial intelligence.
