Biography
Michael is a lecturer and researcher in Human Movement Sciences at Waterford Institute of Technology . He graduated with a BSc in Sport and Exercise Sciences from the University of Limerick, in 2002 and subsequently completed a PhD in Biomechanics at the University of Limerick in 2007.
He worked as a lecturer at the University of Ulster from 2008-2012, before commencing his current role at Waterford Institute of Technology.

Michael is an active member of the Department's Teaching and Learning Committee and has a keen interest developing and improving his teaching methods. He has been teaching in the Higher Education sector for nine years (6 years FT, 3 years PT)

Michael's research is primarily quantitative and research interests include the prevention and treatment of sports injuries, applications of biofeedback for sport and rehabilitation, functional movement screening, ambulatory monitoring and the analysis and quantification of movement variability. Michael is also particularly interested in the technologies and techniques which underpin these research areas.
Current or recently completed research projects include:
Femoroacetabular Impingement: Prevalence and Functional Performance Changes Following Arthroscopic surgery (collaborative project with Dr Patrick Carton of the Hip and Groin Clinic (Whitfield Clinic)
Functional Movement Screening - An analysis of injury prediction in Soccer
Real-time feedback training to reduce tibial stress fracture injury risk in runners (based at the University of Ulster)
Perceptions and use of notational analysis by US Soccer coaches (collaborative project with the National Soccer Coaches Association of America - NSCAA)
