Biography

Donal Keating is a graduate of the Garda College, Templemore (1994), Waterford Institute of Technology (1998) and University College Cork (1999 and 2008). He holds a National Certificate in Legal Studies, a National Diploma in Business Studies (Export Law), National Diploma in Policing Studies (1994), a BA (Hons) in Legal and Business Studies (1998), a postgraduate Law degree (LLB) (1999) and a Masters in Law (LLM) (2008). He is former member of An Garda Siochana. He qualified as a Solicitor in 2006. He is a qualified mediator since 2012. He is a criminal justice studies lecturer on the BA (Hons) in Criminal Justice Studies . He also the Placement Co-ordinator on the BA (Hons) in Applied Criminal Justice Studies at SETU Waterford. 

Donal Keating has worked at SETU Waterford (formerly Waterford Institute of Technology) since 2004. He is a lecturer in criminal law and procedure, criminal evidence and applied forensics. 

Donal Keating's research interests include criminal law, criminal evidence and procedure, policing studies, and civil debt enforcement. 

His publications, which he co-authored with Dr. Mary Donnelly of University College Cork, include “The Sheriff’s Office: An Effective Model for Debt Enforcement?” Commercial Law Practitioner, Vol. 16, Issue 7, pp135-141” and  “Reforming the Law on Debt Enforcement and the Role of the Sheriff” Commercial Law Practitioner, Vol. 16, Issue 8, pp163-166.”

Donal is a contributor to the Law Reform Commission Consultation Paper – Personal Debt Management and Debt Enforcement – (LRC CP 56 – 2009)

Donal previously co-supervising a post-graduate research student who was studying for her MA. Her research area was in relation to older people's experience of professional and social services. 

Donal Keating is a former member of An Garda Siochana. He worked in various roles within the Gardai between 1994 and 2003. He resigned from An Garda Siochana in order to pursue a career as a solicitor. Donal qualified as a solicitor in January, 2006. He is currently enrolled as a solicitor with the Law Society of Ireland. When he practiced as a solicitor, he specialised in conveyancing, commercial law and criminal & civil litigation.
