Biography

After achieving a BSc in Analytical Science in 1988, Bernadette Whelan spent 12 years working within the Irish Pharmaceutical industry as a Development Chemist and Production Chemist. In 1997 she was awarded an MSc in Instrumental Analytical Chemistry.  Since 2000 Bernadette has been employed as a Lecturer in Waterford Institute of Technology lecturing in the modules across the level 6, 7, 8 and 9 programmes in Science and Pharmaceutical Science within the School of Science & Computing. 

Bernadette is the Programme Leader for the Higher Certificate in Science in Good Manufacturing Practice and Technology, Bachelor of Science (O) in Good Manufacturing Practice & Technology and Bachelor of Science (H) in Good Manufacturing Practice & Technology. 

Subject area specialism and observation of industrial behaviour and progress in Ireland has led her to complete a PhD study the  ‘A Framework for Sustainable, Competitive Advantage for the Irish Pharmaceutical Industry'.

Lecturer in the following modules:  Core Competencies, Good Manufacturing Practice, Cleanroom Technology, Process Validation, Total Quality Management, Advanced Quality Methodologies, Regulatory Affairs & Compliance, Strategic Quality Management, International Regulatory Affairs. Supervision of Literature Review and Research Project modules.  Practical component of Pharmaceutical Formulation & Drug Delivery module.           

Area of interest is Competitiveness within the Pharmaceutical industry in Ireland; industrial based research in order to facilitate enhanced integration between academia and the industry in the area of effective sustainable strategic management techniques.
