Four second-year students who are studying the Bachelor of Science in TV and Media Production at SETU, won ‘Best Film’ in the adult category at the recent South East 24-Hour Film Challenge in Waterford.
The team took home the award for their short film Hear the Roses, directed by Ryan Falconer, after impressing judges with their storytelling, technical skill, and ability to deliver a polished production in just one day.

A race against the clock
The challenge, hosted by the Waterford Film Centre, tasked seven teams of teens and adults with creating an original short film in just 24 hours. Each team was required to incorporate a specific line of dialogue, a surprise prop and a recognisable Waterford landmark into their work. For the SETU students, the intense timeframe demanded teamwork, creative problem solving, and a strong grasp of filmmaking techniques- skills they have been developing throughout their degree.
Celebrating student success
The films were screened to an audience of over 100 people at St Patrick’s Gateway Centre, where the students work stood out for its original storyline and production quality. Their success is a testament to their dedication, skills, and the practical, industry-focused training that was developed throughout the Bachelor of Science in TV and Media Production programme at SETU.
