SETU hosted a CPD seminar entitled, Advances in Modern Surveying Technologies in Construction and Civil Engineering, organised by the Department of Built Environment in partnership with Engineering the South East. The seminar was one of four hosted by  the Department at SETU in Carlow this year and was aimed at those working in civil engineering, construction, and the built environment.

The last decade has seen major advances in the range and sophistication of surveying technologies available in the construction and civil engineering sectors. Scanning, construction robotics and mixed reality technologies have become more mainstream and readily available offering sophisticated new capabilities to improve and streamline the construction process.

The seminar brought attendees up to date with modern surveying technologies available and outlined how they can be seamlessly incorporated into building and civil engineering projects. Talks were delivered from leading industry experts, including Diarmaid Meagher and Kevin Kinahan of the Korec Group, and Jonathon Hawkins and Dáire Conlon from Murphy Geospatial. Both companies are at the forefront of the scanning and construction robotics in Ireland and provided cutting edge insights to event attendees.

Speaking about the event, Stephen Rooney, Cluster Manager for Engineering the South East, said, “We are delighted to work with the Department of the Built Environment at SETU in Carlow to provide cutting edge and career enhancing CPD options to professionals working in the built environment. This seminar is a tremendous learning opportunity in an area that has seen significant developments in the last decade.”

Eoin Homan, Head of the Department of Built Environment from SETU in Carlow, commented, “This successful seminar closes out our 2023 series of CPD events in partnership with our colleagues at Engineering the South East that demonstrates SETU’s strategic aims to engage with industry across the region. The team at the Department of Built Environment will shortly announce the schedule of CPD seminars for 2024, which will continue our mission to link with and serve industry in the region.”
