South East Technological University (SETU) welcomed academic partners from across Europe in earlier this month as part of the Erasmus+ DREAMER project, which focuses on advancing project management education to support the reconstruction of Ukraine.
The Department of Architecture and the Built Environment, together with the SABRE Research Centre at SETU, hosted representatives from Ukraine, Poland, Slovakia, Romania, and Croatia. The visit combined technical learning, project collaboration, and cultural exchange, strengthening relationships across the consortium.
During their time in Ireland, the group visited the BAM UK & Ireland-led construction of the new national children’s hospital. The tour was guided by current SETU students on work placement with BAM, offering real-world insight into one of the largest infrastructure projects in the state. The visitors also explored Waterford’s North Quays development, with BAM facilitating a presentation on the city’s forthcoming sustainable bridge.
Working sessions were held at SETU’s Cork Road and Granary campuses in Waterford. These sessions focused on refining module templates and structures, project implementation, and peer review of syllabus assessments—key steps in developing a joint educational response to reconstruction needs.
There was also time to enjoy some of Ireland’s cultural highlights. A working day took place outdoors in Glendalough, following lunch at the well-known Johnny Fox’s pub, and the group spent time in Tramore for informal networking and a chance to see the south-east coastline.
Partners participating in the DREAMER project travelled from:
- Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava
- Kozminski University, Poland
- Politehnica Bucharest
- Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture
- Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv
- Zagreb School of Economics and Management
DREAMER – Development and Reconstruction Empowerment through advanced Project Management Education & Research – is funded by the European Union through the Erasmus+ programme. The project is supported by Oracle and the Project Management Institute Slovakia.
