After almost a decade working with a global multinational company, Vishnu Sasidhar returned to education to pursue a master’s at SETU, broadening his career prospects.

A graduate of SETU's Master of Science in Innovative Technology Engineering, Vishnu reflects on a transformative journey marked by professional development, academic growth, and personal achievement.

Taking strategic steps

With a background in mechanical engineering and tool design, Vishnu chose the course at SETU to pivot into a more specialised and future-facing engineering role.

“This course at SETU stood out to me because of its unique combination of modules. It aligned perfectly with my passion for product design and sustainability. I wanted to reroute my career into core engineering – particularly in new product development.”

Academic highlights

Among the modules, Biomedical Science, Advanced Mechanics of Materials, and Regulatory Affairs stood out for their direct relevance to Vishnu’s career ambitions in the MedTech sector. He also enjoyed the entrepreneurship-focused element of the course, which gave him a broader understanding of how engineering concepts moved from lab to market.

Vishnu’s dissertation, focusing on the design of a biomedical implant using advanced polymers and additive manufacturing, allowed him to integrate his academic background with his industry aspirations.

Supportive and inclusive experience

Returning to student life after several years was a major change, but Vishnu found SETU to be a welcoming environment. “The lecturers were approachable and helpful, and I appreciated that I could reach out to the Head of Department if I needed academic support,” he noted. “The student community was vibrant, and I felt included despite the age gap.”

Vishnu also made time to join the university’s dance club, using it as a light-hearted way to relax, made friends, and experienced Irish college life.

Looking ahead

Vishnu hoped to enter Ireland’s thriving MedTech industry in a product development, innovation, or quality role. Vishnu said, “This wasn’t an easy journey - being away from family, adjusting to a new country, juggling part-time work and study, but it has been incredibly rewarding."
