A group of third year nursing students recently had the unique opportunity to complete a clinical placement in Lourdes, France.

The trip coincided with the annual Waterford and Lismore Diocesan Pilgrimage. Under the guidance of SETU lecturers Deirdre Chapman and Isobel Flynn, 24 Nursing students provided compassionate care and support to assist pilgrims throughout the week.

Develop skills

This experience offered students the opportunity to develop their clinical and interpersonal skills in a different but deeply meaningful environment. Their dedication, kindness, and professionalism did not go unnoticed.

Bishop Alphonsus Cullinan personally thanked the students for their invaluable contribution and wished them every success in their future careers. Chief Nurse Sr. Rosemary McCarthy also expressed heartfelt gratitude for their commitment, care and reliability throughout the pilgrimage.

Vibrant spirit

SETU lecturer, Deirdre Chapman commended the group for their caring nature, friendly demeanour, musical talents and infectious enthusiasm, all of which added a vibrant spirit to the pilgrimage.

Deirdre commented: “We hope this experience has been as enriching for the students as it was for those they cared for. We look forward to seeing some of them return to Lourdes in the future.”
