Date : Thu 03 Sep
Time : 10:00 - 13:00
Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment (DCEE), Wexford Office, Eircode: Y35 AP90
The MSP Challenge (Maritime Spatial Planning Challenge) is an internationally recognised simulation game used by policymakers, planners, researchers, and stakeholders around the world to explore the challenges and opportunities of sustainably managing our oceans and seas.
SETU Sustainable Development Office (SDO) in collaboration with the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment (DCEE), and Capt. Phil Murphy, will host MSP Challenge workshops at the Department’s Wexford office.
Following an introduction to Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP) and the Department’s work in this area, participants will take part in the MSP Challenge simulation, working together to develop a maritime spatial plan.
The simulation requires participants to balance competing priorities, including renewable energy, shipping, biodiversity conservation, environmental protection, and economic development. Through this interactive experience, participants will explore the complexities of marine and coastal decision-making, gain insights into the interconnected nature of sustainability challenges, and appreciate the value of collaborative approaches to sustainable development
The first workshop will take place on 3rd Sept and is aimed at staff. Participants will explore the challenges of balancing environmental, social, and economic priorities in marine planning through an immersive and interactive learning experience.
Places are limited, so early booking is recommended.
Following this, a workshop will be held for students at a later date.
