EPA Research Call 2025

The EPA Research Call 2025 invites submissions under 29 research topics that will contribute to the development and implementation of environmental policies in Ireland. 

These topics have been identified through consultation with relevant stakeholders and are aligned to the EPA Thematic Research Priorities 2024-2026.  The EPA Research Programme focuses on achieving environmental objectives, informing policy and bringing together researchers and research users. 

 Research funded through this call is essential for:

  • Supporting the monitoring, assessment, reporting and regulatory activities of the EPA
  • Generating evidence crucial for Ireland to meet commitments under various international, EU and national policies
  • Generating the evidence base that supports decision making, behaviour change and policy development
  • Addressing knowledge gaps and responding to priority challenges
  • Supporting multi-disciplinary, cross-sectoral and multi-stakeholder partnership projects
  • Developing environmental research capacity in Ireland

The call is structured around four interconnected research hubs (details below), under which the 29 research topics sit. The EPA Research Call 2025 also includes co-funding partnerships with:

  • Met Éireann- Ireland's National Meteorological Service
  • Office of Public Works (OPW)- responsible for flood risk management
  • National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS)- responsible for nature conservation

Funding and Duration:

The funding and duration of awards made under this call will vary based on the scope set out in the specific Topic descriptions:

  • Project durations range from 12 to 48 months
  • Funding available ranges from €165,000 to €660,000 per project

  Salary cost or buy-out hours for permanent staff are not eligible costs.

 

Eligibility:

To be eligible applicants must:

  • Submit proposals that address one of the 29 research Topics identified in the call
  • Submit under the correct Research Hub and Call Topic
  • Make no more than one submission under any Call Topic 

All proposals submitted to the Research Call will undergo an eligibility check by the EPA before proceeding to the evaluation stage.

SETU Webinar:

An SETU webinar for applicants will also be held in the coming weeks (registration details to be circulated).

SETU applicants should add their application to PURE by the deadline specified in the table.  Applications must be submitted to the EPA via their online Application Portal. Prospective applicants should register on the EPA's portal to access the application form.
