Medical Services - Carlow Campus

Students must be registered with the Medical Centre to use the Medical Centre Services.

New students please register online at the beginning of term using the 'Medical Centre Registration Form'. You only need to register with the Medical Centre once during your college stay. If you are a returning student who has previously registered with the medical centre, you do not need to re-register. Please log in with your student email address and password. It may take up to 24 hours / next working day, before you are registered to use the medical centre.

Medical Centre Registration Form

The SETU Carlow campus student medical centre is nurse led and available to all full-time registered students and apprentices during college hours, throughout the academic year. The service is a term time addition but not a replacement for the student’s own GP. It provides acute care during the week when it is not possible for students to attend their own medical service and operates within certain resource constraints. The service provides treatment and referrals to community services, and promotes positive well-being through advice, information and health promotion. Nurse Theresa Lowry Lehnen is available for the assessment, treatment and management of students’ health needs during the term. Doctors attend the Medical Centre four days per week (Monday – Thursday) term-time only, and appointments for the Doctor are booked by phone, on the day, from 09.00-10.30. Telephone: +353 (0) 59 9175606.

Medical records are private and confidential and are not part of the main SETU records.

E.U. Erasmus Students

E.U. Erasmus Students are entitled to free medical consultation and prescriptions during their College stay in Ireland on presentation of a valid European Health Card. A copy of EU Erasmus students EHIC card must be uploaded/attached when registering online for the medical centre. EU Erasmus students will also need to provide photo evidence and a copy of their signature on first attendance at the medical centre (e.g. a signed photocopy of their student card). For more information about the European Health Insurance Card, who needs it, how to apply for one and more please follow the link below.

Non E.U. International Students

Non E.U. International Students are welcome to attend the Doctor at the medical centre, at the student rate of €20. It is recommended that Non - E.U International Students have adequate medical insurance on arrival in Ireland. We encourage Non - E.U International students to register with a GP in the area, as the Carlow campus Doctors are only available term time.

All appointments at the Medical Centre are scheduled exclusively via phone at +353 (0) 59 9175606. Please note that appointments cannot be arranged through voicemail or email. Doctor's appointments can be booked on the day (Monday to Thursday) by calling the same number from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM. Please be aware that there is no Doctor available on campus on Fridays. The fee for Doctor appointments is €20, although they are free for medical cardholders, GP visit cardholders, and Erasmus EHIC cardholders. Carlow Town medical card and GP visit cardholders are kindly requested to visit their designated GP. There is no charge for visits to the Nurse, whose availability spans from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with a break from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM. The last appointment with the Nurse is scheduled for 4:30 PM.
