SETU welcomes applications from academic and research staff members interested in supervising PhD students to be funded under the SETU PhD Scholarship Programme 2024. A maximum of up to 30 scholarships will be funded under the SETU PhD Programme. The overall purpose of these scholarship programmes is to:

  • Promote high quality, innovative research and provide research and development training for highly skilled graduates leading to the award of a PhD; and
  • Support the increase in PhD numbers at SETU, in line with national and European priorities.

The Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis, a minimum score of 75% is needed to be considered for funding. Please see call terms and conditions.

Awards will be made on the basis of excellence and subject to funding being available. SETU reserves the right not to award all scholarships.

All awards are subject to satisfactory progress assessed through successful completion of the annual progress monitoring process outlined in SETU’s Code of Practice and Regulations.

Applications from supervisory teams involving new supervisors are particularly welcome and will be reviewed favourably in line with the evaluation criteria and scoring, to continue to expand the research supervisory capacity of the University. This is applicable under the SETU PhD Scholarship Programme ONLY.

Supervisory arrangements must comply with the postgraduate regulations. See the T&C's. document for full details.

Those wishing to put forward an application are asked to complete the Expression of Interest form in advance of submitting a full application. 

N.B. Expressions of Interest should be submitted by supervisors and not by prospective students.

Step 1: Expressions of Interest (EOI) should be completed through this form by 17:00 on 29 January 2024. This will include a 500-word abstract and working title.

Completed application forms will be assigned to evaluation panels based on the categories selected on the EoI. To be eligible to apply for one of the programmes, applicants must submit an EoI.
 

Step 2: Application process (once called to apply following a valid EoI).

The upper limit is 11 pages excluding appendices (supervisor profiles, reference list, and letters of support, where applicable) together with the declaration sheet.

The evaluation panel will not consider project submissions that exceed the stated page limit and/or word count, or those which do not use the application template provided.

An electronic copy of the completed application form (using the template provided) with relevant signatures is all that is required.
