Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.
The regional Biodiversity and Sustainability forum within SETU provides a collaborative space for the enhancement of biodiversity, nature restoration and sustainability practices across the South East. The forum facilitates the exchange of projects, initiatives, ideas and best practice among regional stakeholders and adopts a bioregional approach.
The National Biodiversity Data Centre, which is based on SETU’s West Campus, works to make biodiversity data and information more freely available in order to better understand and assist the protection of Ireland’s biodiversity.
Tree Planting/Carbon Sequestration - SETU West Campus, Carriganore is the location of a new native woodland "pocket forest" courtesy of the on-going collaboration between SETU Land Science Department, the community and industry partners, where over 2000 trees have been planted. In addition, on the South Sports Campus, Carlow 115 semimature trees and a further 21,350 bare root trees were planted.
