SETU marketing graduate, Jack Honnen, presented his innovative business idea, MediTreats, at the New Frontiers Showcase on 20 February 2026.
Jack graduated from SETU’s Bachelor of Business (Honours) in Marketing programme after four years of study. During his studies and as part of his new product innovation module, Jack created a solution for administrating liquid medication to dogs.
After completing his studies, Jack went on to join Phase 2 of the Enterprise Ireland New Frontiers Programme on SETU’s campus in Carlow, with the hopes of turning his idea into a successful and sustainable startup business. His entrepreneurial journey culminated with Jack pitching his idea to a host of potential investors at the New Frontiers Showcase and took home the award for 'most innovative idea'.

The programme has allowed me to take my idea much further, moving from concept and validation into prototyping, technical development, and commercial planning. The programme has given me access to expert mentors, designers, and industry contacts, and has helped me understand how to turn a product idea into a viable business.

MediTreats
Jack identified a struggle among pet owners when attempting to administer liquid medications at home and developed a solution. MediTreats is a functional dog treat designed to make administering liquid medication easier and stress-free for both dogs and owners. The treat acts as an edible capsule, allowing liquid medication to be injected inside so dogs consume the full dose willingly, without the usual struggle or risk of underdosing.
When speaking about his solution, Jack shared, “Owners can simply inject the prescribed liquid medication into the treat, wait a few minutes and then the dog can consume it like a normal snack. No stress, no waste, no mess.”
SETU staff support
Rita Byrne Kelly, SETU Marketing Lecturer, said, “Jack was a fantastic student. He really embraced the New Product Innovation module, which is an elective subject on the BBS Marketing & BSc Digital Marketing & Analytics programmes. Once Jack got his new idea, he ran with it, with passion and enthusiasm. Jack really went the extra mile in his work. Jack's grandad was a fantastic Vet, that my own Dad knew well and thought very highly of. I tried to steer him in the direction of his passion and interest.”

Continuing, Rita shared, “I knew it was a great idea from day one. Each student must pitch their idea to their class mates, as though they were potential investors. Jack's idea was voted as the best project by his peers. I suggested that Jack should contact Gemma Purcell, the New Frontiers Programme Manager, and ask about the supports available to entrepreneurs. Jack applied to the programme and got accepted to Phase 2, skipping Phase 1, as he had completed enough work as part of his New Product Innovation module.”
