The ParkerLaw Bursary 2022 has been awarded to Stephen Lacey, a final year LL.B. student in SETU Waterford for his outstanding results during the academic year.

Suzanne Parker, Principal Solicitor at ParkerLaw who presented the award said “As a former law graduate of Waterford Institute of Technology, I am delighted to come on board with SETU Waterford in its inaugural year by presenting this bursary to Stephen, a worthy recipient having achieved first class honours in his final year. I understand that Stephen is the University’s nominee for the Chief Justice’s Summer Placement in Dublin and I hope this award will assist him financially with this opportunity”.

In congratulating Stephen for his achievements during the year, Dr. Michael Bergin, Head of Department of Law and Criminal Justice also expressed his gratitude to ParkerLaw. He stated that “Law firms in Waterford have always been supportive of the student body in SETU and we are very grateful to ParkerLaw, a new law firm in Waterford, for creating this generous bursary and to Suzanne for taking time out from her busy schedule to visit us today and present the award". He also thanked the LL.B. lecturing team for their dedication and commitment to their students and programme.

Surrounded by lecturers and family members, the recipient Stephen Lacey observed “I am so appreciative to Suzanne Parker for this generous bursary, which together with the financial support offered by SETU Waterford will facilitate me in completing the Chief Justice’s Summer Placement Programme in Dublin. I would also like to take the opportunity to thank the law lecturers present here for inspiring, challenging and supporting me throughout my programme of study.” Stephen will commence the LL.M. programme of study in Trinity College Dublin in September and SETU wishes him well in the next phase of his academic journey.
