South East Technological University (SETU) is proud to announce that five of its researchers have been included in the prestigious Stanford Elsevier World’s Top 2% Scientists list for 2025. The global ranking recognises the world’s most influential researchers across all disciplines.
The SETU researchers named in the 2025 edition are:
- Professor Marie Claire Van Hout – Vice President for Research, Innovation and Impact.
- Professor Gillian Gardiner – Department of Science, Eco-Innovation Research Centre.
- Dr Sweta Rani – Department of Science, Ocular Therapeutics Research Group.
- Dr Wanan Sheng - Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, engCORE.
- Dr Marcos Mariano - Department of Science, Ocular Therapeutics Research Group.
This recognition highlights the calibre and influence of SETU’s research community and its growing reputation on the international stage.

The Stanford Elsevier list is widely regarded as one of the most comprehensive measures of global research influence. It is compiled annually using a range of citation metrics, capturing both career-long and single-year impact.
The inclusion of these SETU researchers underlines the university’s commitment to producing world-class research that responds to regional needs, strengthens industry collaboration, and contributes to solving global challenges.
Notably, four of the above-named researchers were also included in previous years rankings, showing their ongoing commitment to continuous research.
