Enhanced industry collaboration is key to business education at SETU, ensuring that students are industry ready and work force aligned.

Third year students in Business and Visual Communications and Design at SETU's Wexford campus, participated in a Design Sprint event led by lecturer, Edel Glowatz, Edel lectures in marketing management in coordination with Wexford Chamber of Commerce. The aim of Design Sprint is to place greater emphasis on developing leaders with a strong sense of social responsibility, innovation, and ethical leadership.

Wexford Chamber CEO, Paula Roche, was on hand to hear the students present their ideas and enjoyed the diversity of concepts and enthusiasm shown by the groups which included a trolley dash; community shopping and connection app; student sustainable spending and saving app; a reverse stripper and the creation of a festival shopping experience.

Design Sprint is a programme funded by the Higher Education Authority (HEA). It is part of a series of innovation 4 sustainability (I4S) workshops being rolled out at all SETU campuses. This session was supported by Wexford Chamber, with Director Helen Meade providing an insightful presentation on retail in county Wexford.

Lecturers Dr Margaret Tynan and Dr Sharon O’ Brien from the Waterford-based Growth Hub, which supports and fosters entrepreneurial thinking, took the students through an ideation process to generate innovative ways of encouraging consumers to support local businesses. A prize fund of €500 was awarded to group participants based on various categories such as innovation, team engagement, best prototype, most sustainable and implementable ideas.
