SETU hosted the Enterprise Ireland New Frontiers Phase 1 networking day at its campus in Carlow on 14 May 2026.
The bi-annual event marked the conclusion of the New Frontiers Programme, a national initiative designed to support ambitious start-up founders with innovative business ideas that have the potential to scale and create employment opportunities. Delivered on a part-time basis over five consecutive weeks, Phase 1 helps participants assess the market potential of their ideas while encouraging peer learning and constructive feedback.
The cohort of 21 entrepreneurs came together for a day of networking, collaboration, and celebration as they marked this first milestone in their entrepreneurial journey. As part of the event, each participant delivered a pitch presentation on their business idea to the wider group, followed by a collaborative feedback session.
Programmes like New Frontiers play an important role in supporting entrepreneurship and innovation across the south east. It is encouraging to see so many ambitious founders developing ideas with real growth potential, and we are proud to support them at this early stage of their journey.

Participants also heard from guest speaker Alex Kelly, founder of the aromatherapy brand Flower Child and a former New Frontiers participant. Flower Child specialises in natural alternatives to everyday home fragrance products. During her presentation, Alex shared insights into her entrepreneurial journey and reflected on the role, the New Frontiers programme played in supporting the growth and development of her business.
The New Frontiers programme was instrumental in the development of Flower Child as it moved from blog to brand and became my full-time career. What started as a passion project was developed into a scalable company through the mentorship and guidance of the New Frontiers programme. I cannot express how much this programme contributed to the growth of the Flower Child brand.

Applications for Phase 2 of New Frontiers at SETU’s Kilkenny Road campus in Carlow are now open. The closing date for applications is 7th July. Email [email protected] for an application form. This full-time, six-month programme offers a support package worth more than €30,000, including a tax-free allowance, with no equity taken.
