SETU hosted Social Care Careers fair at Wexford campus, and it proved to be a highly successful and engaging event for students across all years of the Social Care programme.

SETU hosted Social Care Careers fair at Wexford campus

A wide range of organisations attended, including Daffodil Services, St Aidan’s Services, Tusla, Wexford Women’s Refuge, Resilience, Kare Plus, and Emerald Care, alongside representation from SETU Careers Department by Orla O’ Sullivan. The event provided students with a valuable opportunity to connect directly with professionals working across diverse areas of social care practice.

Emerald Care, St Aidan’s Services, Resilience, and Daffodil Services, delivering informative presentations outlining their services

Throughout the morning Emerald Care, St Aidan’s Services, Resilience, and Daffodil Services, delivered informative presentations outlining their services, organisational values, and the various career pathways available within their sectors. These talks offered meaningful insights into day-to-day roles, professional development opportunities, and the skills required to succeed in the field, helping to bridge the gap between academic study and professional practice.

The primary aim of the Careers Fair was to support all current social care students to develop a deeper understanding of the breadth of services available within the community, while also encouraging informed decision-making about future career paths. Students were given the opportunity to explore potential placement opportunities, engage in discussions about role responsibilities, and ask questions in an open and supportive environment.

Students discussing with guest speakers

A Wellness Hour was held for the students after the Careers Fair where guest speakers who are past students, gave their advice and guidance about their experience as students on campus and now as working professionals in the social care environment.

Events such as this play a vital role in preparing students for professional practice by fostering connections, enhancing awareness, and building confidence as they progress toward their careers in social care.
