SETU’s second annual Teaching Excellence Awards took place today in recognition of the outstanding contribution of staff to teaching and learning across the university.
Guests arrived to recognise staff members whose commitment to innovative teaching and delivering transformative courses has had a significant impact on student learning and development.
The awards attracted a high number of nominations from across the University, which is a testament to the innovative teaching practise taking place across campuses and the commitment from staff to ensure high-quality learning experience for the students.
The Teaching Excellence Awards Evaluation Panel commended the outstanding quality and commitment shown both in the teaching portfolios and the professional dialogues that were conducted as part of the process.
This year the University awarded the SETU Teaching Excellence Award to two individuals and one programme team.
Individual Awards were received by Dr Edel Glowatz, Faculty of Business / Faculty of Arts and Humanities and Dr Catherine Kelly Mason, Faculty of Health Sciences.
A Team Award was presented to the Programme Team for the Certificate in Personal Development, Faculty of Health Sciences.
Professor Veronica Campbell, President at SETU, warmly welcomed and congratulated awardees:
“I am delighted to be here today to congratulate the inspiring staff at SETU. This is our second year to celebrate the exceptional dedication, innovation, and impact shown by our educators in their teaching practice across our university.
The inclusive nomination process placed the student voice at the heart of how we recognise and celebrate teaching excellence and reflects the importance of a learner-centred approach, where teaching is responsive, reflective, and grounded in authentic student engagement.
I would like to acknowledge this year’s Team Award which goes to the Programme Team for the Certificate in Personal Development at the Faculty of Health Sciences. This innovative programme, already a national award winner, is specifically designed to address the educational needs of individuals with intellectual disabilities.

The Teaching Excellence Awards were introduced last year along with SETU’s Research Excellence and PMSS (Professional, Management, Support and Services) Awards. These awards create an opportunity to acknowledge staff achievements across teaching, research, and professional practice.
