Kasey Doyle graduated from SETU at the 2025 conferring ceremony, turning compassion into impact and building a career that transformed lives and inspired positive change.

Choosing the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Applied Social Studies in Professional Social Care at SETU marked more than an academic path for Kasey. It was a commitment to understanding people and helping them improve their lives. Kasey reflects on a journey at SETU, that has been both deeply rewarding and personally transformative. 

“I was drawn to the variety and challenges within the field of social care. No two days are the same, and there are always opportunities to learn and grow. I enjoy seeing the direct impact of the work on someone’s wellbeing, it is very rewarding.”

A blend of social care theory and practice 

Throughout her studies, Kasey found that SETU’s courses offered the perfect blend of theory and practical experience.

“I really appreciated the variety in the course, from theoretical concepts to exploring human behaviour and understanding how factors like mental health, family dynamics, and social inequalities impact people’s lives. The practical placement was especially valuable, giving me hands-on experience and the opportunity to apply what I learned in a real-world setting.”

Kasey’s work placement experience took her out of her comfort zone, allowing her to take on new challenges to hone her skills.  

Providing a supportive peer network 

Looking back, Kasey described that one of her favourite aspects was the strong friendships that she developed. These relationships fostered a supportive and motivating community that profoundly benefited her time at university.   

“I truly enjoyed collaborating with my fellow students. Through our shared experiences, I formed meaningful relationships that I believe will last a lifetime. The supportive and engaging environment made learning both rewarding and enjoyable,” Kasey recalled. 

“We formed a close-knit group that not only shared academic support but also offered emotional encouragement through the challenges throughout the course. This network of friends served as an essential source of encouragement and strength, made my time truly memorable. I firmly believe that the unwavering support was instrumental in helping to complete the course successfully and embrace for the future opportunities.” Kasey shared.   

The road ahead  

As Kasey looks to the future, her focus remains on making a positive difference in people’s lives. She said, “My goal is to build a meaningful career where I can help individuals overcome challenges and reach their potential.”   

Kasey is committed to the continuous learning and personal growth required of a social care professional. She intends to pursue advanced studies in this area.  Kasey’s journey through applied social studies highlights the power of compassion, resilience, and education, proving that meaningful change often begins with the courage to care.
