Webinar Introduction

This webinar, delivered by Saskia Walcott, Founder and CEO, Walcott Communications Ltd, is the ideal grounding for those keen to learn or refresh the key principles and definitions of research impact, and how to apply the concepts to their own work.

The session will clarify the distinctions between research outputs, outcomes and impacts, and guide you through identifying key impact stakeholders. By the end of the session, attendees will have a clearer idea of how their research can make a real difference outside of academia, the importance of developing an “impact mindset” and who to engage with to make impact happen.

About Saskia Walcott

Saskia Walcott is CEO of Walcott Communications Ltd (WCL), a UK-based consultancy specialising in research impact. She has worked in and with the UK higher education sector for over 20 years, supporting researchers and institutions to embed impact into their work and culture.

Saskia founded WCL in 2010 andhas since trained and mentored hundreds of academics, helping them to develop meaningful and sustainable appoaches to impact. She has supported universities in shaping institutional strategies and has contributed to the development of hundreds of REF impact case studies across all four main panels during the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014 and REF 2021. Her clients include universities across the UK, Europe, Southeast Asia, and Australia.

She serves on the Board of ARMA (Association of Research Managers and Administrators) and chairs its Professional Development Committee, overseeing the quality and relevance of ARMA’s training, qualifications, and annual conference.
