What is the Master of Business (Management Stream)?
The MBS (Management Stream) is an innovative, problem focused and practice-oriented programme. It is designed to equip individuals with the necessary knowledge and skills to meet the challenges of dynamic and complex organisational environments and prepare them to be leaders and effective decision makers in industry. Successful candidates will possess both the personal skills and specialist knowledge to undertake challenging assignments and integrate more effectively into the workplace.
The MBS (Management Stream) stands apart for its pace, rigour and depth. The programme moves beyond passive knowledge acquisition. Instead emphasis is placed on developing skills such as critical thinking, analysis, debate, dealing with high levels of ambiguity, decision making and the ability to generate interdependent decisions in a complex environment.
Designed to deliver a well-rounded knowledge of the theories, practices and skills of management and business, the MBS (Management Stream) integrates innovative teaching and learning methods to prepare the student for the real world business environment and all the challenges and opportunities that this presents.

- Modules are flexibly delivered at a time that suits students, for those taking the course full time, they can attend on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons/evenings and for the part-time cohort, they can attend on Thursday afternoon/evening. SETU School of Business hosts a CEO-in-Residence programme, and this course offers students the unique opportunity to network and engage with an appointed CEO on a range of issues, including leadership, management and business practice. Who is the MBS (Management Stream) for?
The SETU MBS (Management Stream) programme is aimed at individuals who wish pursue a career in general management. It has been developed with a strong focus on applied learning showing students how they can make the connections between theory and practice. The programme is offered for both full-time and part-time students especially for executives who aspire to first-line management positions. The course provides students with an analytical understanding of general management techniques and the scope to apply this knowledge creatively to real-work situations.
If you have a degree in management or a general business degree with a management major/specialisation and you would like to pursue a career in management, then this programme has been designed with you in mind.
Please note: The Master of Business (Management Stream) is offered both full time and part time mode.
This programme will be delivered in the afternoon on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (1.15pm-8pm). The majority of classes will be facilitated in-person at our Waterford campus. Students will be required to attend for all classes, as well as independent study. In semester 2, students are supported to participate in a week-long study programme to Brussels. Again, this is a mandatory module which is fully assessed, and students will be required to attend the study programme. Finally, in semesters 2 and 3 of the course, students will be required to attend preparation workshops and classes for the three Research Papers which comprise the final stage of the course.

Note: In semester 3 students will complete a dissertation or applied business project or the 3 research papers.
Entry Requirements
A H1 or 2.1 overall award in a strong specialist Business Management undergraduate degree or a General Business undergraduate degree with a Management specialism.
Students from a non-business degree (example – BA or BSc), but have taken Management modules during their studies and have achieved a minimum grade of 60% in those subjects.
In some instances graduates who have achieved a 2nd class honours grade 2 in the degrees listed above and who can demonstrate a high level of performance in the Management related subjects may be considered for interview and short listing.
Applicants whose first language is not English must submit evidence of competency in English.

Subject to satisfying the aforementioned entry criteria, applicants will be offered places on a first-come-first-served basis per their application submission.
The programme equips students to progress in a broad range of business, public sector, voluntary and research workplaces.
Students benefit from a customised ‘Contemporary Issues in Business’ module which brings together invited keynote speakers from a diverse range of businesses and public policy organisations, so that students have the opportunity to learn from industry-leading practitioners. Previous MBS students have benefited from these close links with industry and many of our partner organisations have been happy to consider our students for first job positions alongside more experienced applicants.
The course also incorporates a number of professional development workshops (including a day-long team development event at induction, an international study tour and a ‘Dragons Den’ competition event) during the year to extend student communication and presentation skills, enhance self-awareness, teamwork and cultural sensitivity, and allow graduates to perform effectively in organisations upon graduation.
A graduate may also apply for further post graduate Level 10 studies, such as a PhD by Research at SETU or to other third level institutions, either nationally or internationally.
