Paul's research is focused in metal additive manufacturing. Particularly with the metrology side of the additive manufacturing process from the raw powder material to the final components produced. Powder utilization in the powder bed fusion process is an area of research Paul is conducting, in particular the feasibility of metal powder recycling.
Paul graduated from TU Dublin Tallaght Campus (formerly IT Tallaght) with a First Class Honors degree in Mechanical Engineering, he then went on to pursue a PhD by research in the SEAM Research Centre in the area of Metal Additive Manufacturing, which he graduated from in October 2024.
Paul has been involved in the area of Additive Manufacturing since 2nd year of his undergraduate degree and he has held many roles in industry utilizing the technology since then. Paul's career has seen him hold positions across applications, training and research in the area assisting companies across Ireland and Europe in developing processes and applications to harness the technology.
In 2019 Paul, moved to ThreeD DAC a dedicated 3D Print training centre where he was the Lead Applications and Training Engineer. He was responsible for the day-to-day operation of the centre and its various additive manufacturing processes as well as responsible for the design and delivery of additive related training programmes. Paul worked with local companies to assist them in the adoption of additive technologies through materials and applications development. Paul was responsible for the development and deployment of ThreeD DACs online training platform which was launched in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
In 2022 Paul moved to Inspire Rapid Manufacturing Ltd and became the Lead AM Engineer and Trainer responsible for the development of the Inspire3D applications identification program to assist companies in identifying potential use cases for additive manufacturing within their processes. Paul was also responsible for the registration and approval of Inspire3Ds Engineers Ireland Registered Training Provider membership enabling the delivery of CPD approved training to industry.
Paul has been a SME on the AMASE (BSc in Additive Manufacturing) since its inception delivering lectures and workshops on design for additive manufacturing harnessing Fusion360 and Generative Design.
