The Certificate in Strategic Planning in Education facilitates an in-depth understanding of strategy in the context of educational institutions. The process of strategic planning and the role of strategy in determining the future direction of the institution are explored using contemporary literature and case-based examples of practice across a range of educational settings.
The formulation, development, and implementation of strategy include critical reflection on the educational institution’s vision, values, stakeholders, external environment, and existing organisational culture.

This module facilitates an in-depth understanding of strategy in the context of educational institutions. The process of strategic planning and the role of strategy in determining the future direction of the institution will be reviewed using contemporary literature and case based examples of practice across a range of educational settings. The formulation, development and implementation of strategy will include critical reflection on the educational institutions’ vision, values, stakeholders, external environment and the existing organisational culture
Applicants are required to have an Honours Degree (Level 8) or equivalent and be working within an educational setting.
The Certificate in Strategic Planning in Education is an elective module on the MA in Management in Education. On successful completion of this Minor Award, graduates may choose to complete the MA in Management in Education at SETU Waterford
Upon successful completion of this module, a student will be able to:
• Critically reflect and evaluate the role of strategy in an educational institution.
• Synthesize and apply tools of internal and external strategic analysis to an educational institution.
• Reference strategic management principles in the context of implementing strategic change in education.
• Demonstrate diagnostic capacity in identifying barriers to strategic change and analyse how these barriers may be overcome in an educational institution.
• Review and contextualise examples of strategy in contemporary education policy and how it impacts an individual educational institution.
