SETU Waterford offers comprehensive support for care-experienced students, including tailored academic, financial, and wellbeing assistance. Our support is available to individuals/groups who currently live in or have lived in state care (e.g., foster care, residential care, kinship care, etc.) before the age of 18.
Supports available
Dedicated staff will guide and support you through your application, enrolment, and university life.
Monthly Meet Ups for Care Experienced Students offer casual opportunities to get support and to meet other students with similar experiences.
Entry routes such as HEAR, DARE, and specific SETU Access Programmes on the Waterford Campus provide alternative pathways to higher education.
Financial aid options include the 1916 Bursary, the Student Assistance Fund (SAF) and SUSI grants and guidance from onsite MABs services.
Accommodation services allocate a limited number of reserved beds for care-experienced students via the SETU Waterford Access Office.
Additional resources include dedicated CES support staff member, academic advisors, mental health services, career development opportunities, and external advocacy organisations.
We recognise the challenges of preparing and transitioning to University life and offer these supports to ensure a successful and enriching university experience for care-experienced individuals.
