Biography
I am a lecturer in the School of Education and Lifelong learning, leading the PG Cert in Technology Enhanced Learning. My research interest include technology, education and society; Using Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) in classroom, design of ethical algorithms for public administration, policy to code Hecat.eu, Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Enhancing Student Education experience using IA, AR, VR, MR with Neurodiverse students.
Previously I have extensive research experience with Walton Institute (TSSG) focussed on Cybersecurity where I led H2020 funded TERAPOD, FP7 funded research project IPACSO and Think-Trust. I led Work Packages in Aniketos and SecurIST and national initiatives with HSE and private industry supported by Enterprise Ireland.
I have strong pedagogy and innovative pedagogy knowledge, technical, analytical and management skills; Project management, SQL, data analysis, requirements management, software quality and testing, technical report and proposal writing I have in-depth knowledge of EU research funding systems including H2020 and Horizon Europe proposal evaluation and project reviews where I am invited as an expert to participate regularly.
I am Course Director for the PG Certification in Technology Enhanced Learning where students range from HE, FET, Post-Primary and Primary teaching disciplines. I lecture on the Masters of Education and Education Management Programmes in the School of Education and Lifelong Learning. Previously, I have lectured with the School of Business and Department of Computing and Maths. I deliver modules in Blended and Online Learning, Content and Online Interaction, Recognition of Prior Learning, Website Design, Print Media and Cloud Computing. In 2021 I was nominated for Teaching in Excellence Award. I am active in the National Forum for Teaching and Learning where I have co-facilitated the Digital Badge and Facilitator Badge in RPL and UDL.
My research interest include technology, education and society; Using Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) in classroom, design of ethical algorithms for public administration, policy to code Hecat.eu, Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) HEA funded project to digitalise RPL process @WIT and develop an online portal to support applicants and WIT PhD fund Enhancing Student Education experience using IA, AR, VR, MR with Neurodiverse students. In 2022 I was nominated for the Early Career Researcher Award in SETU.
I have extensive experience in Cybersecurity through the following projects;
- IPACSO; IPaCSO supports the development of innovative cyber security and privacy related activities in Europe.
- Aniketos project (www.aniketos.eu) focusing on trustworthiness, and secure behaviour in a service environment (total project funding €9.6M),
- Think-Trust; investigated Trust, Security, Dependability, Privacy and Identity from ICT and Societal Perspectives. Provided visionary guidance on policy and research challenges in the field of security and trust in the Information Society and recommendations on research agenda and policy (total project funding €580,000)
- VidAs; Peer to peer (P2P) video distribution technology funded byEnterprise Ireland’s Commercialisation Fund Technology Development Program.
- SecurIST -EU FP7, development of the strategic research agenda for ICT Security and Dependability R&D . Leading security research project clustering, increased collaboration, dissemination and networking.
- ESFORS -EU FP7, a Pan European Industry and Academic forum addressing security and dependability issues for software, services and systems
My Masters By Research was entitled:
An Exploratory Study of Knowledge Management and Management Control in Multi-nationals in Ireland.
My doctorate entitled:
An investigation of social and economic aspects of structural embeddedness in an ICT research network (AquaSmart) based in the European Union.
I was awarded a First Class Honours Master of Arts in Learning and Teaching which included modules in Pedagogy, Educational theory, Technology enhanced learning and blended learning.
