Biography

Dr. Saoirse Casey Power is a lecturer in Medicinal Chemistry within the Department Science and Computing at South East Technological University. She recently completed a PhD within the Ocular Therapeutics Research Group  (OTRG) at the Pharmaceutical and Molecular Biotechnology Research Centre, primarily focusing on the development of biomaterial-based nanoformulations for the preventative treatment of age-related, neurodegenerative ocular diseases. Following this, she worked as a postdoctoral researcher within the OTRG on two enterprise partnership projects relating to the development of a nano-enhanced contact lens platform for enhanced ocular comfort.

With experience in both the medical device and high-potency pharmaceutical industries, her aim is to foster collaboration between academic research and industry practice to address real-world healthcare challenge in future research projects.

Her research interests include, but are not limited to:

  • Nanoformulation development
  • Preventative treatments options focusing on the enhancement of endogenous cell processes
  • Ocular drug delivery
  • Ocular disease prevention and management
  • Biomaterials for formulation development
  • Formulation chemistry
  • Materials characterisation
  • Green chemistry and sustainability
  • Pharmacognosy and natural products
