Biography

Brian Foley works with the Institute's Strategic Planning Office. Prior to taking up this role, Brian worked as Industry Services Manager (ISM) within the Office of the VP of Research at WIT. That role has responsibility for overseeing the management and direction of the Institute’s professional support services in the areas of sponsored research, incubation supports and technology transfer. This includes the development, organisation and management of collaborative activities in the areas of research, innovation, technology transfer and enterprise development with industry, entrepreneurs, government department, research sponsors and other external organisations. The ISM role includes the identification and promotion of opportunities for collaboration with external organisations and enterprises in R & D and Brian worked closely with the Institute’s research centres to promote the Institute’s R & D capabilities and services to industry.

Prior to taking up the role of ISM, Brian was the EU Quality Manager at the TSSG Research Group in WIT, one of Ireland's leading ICT research groups with over one hundred active researchers. He was responsible for quality-managing EU proposals and supporting researchers in proposal development. He has previously managed and coordinated projects in EU RTD Frameworks 5, 6 and 7. Brian has twenty-five years’ experience working with public and private sector organisations in Ireland and Europe. He has a first class honours degree and has worked in a variety of roles since graduating in 1987. He has successfully managed in-company, collaborative and international research projects. He has also worked in the agri-industry in a range of policy and commercial roles.
