Biography
Brian is a Civil/Geotechnical Engineer, a Chartered Fellow of Engineers Ireland, a Chartered Health and Safety Practitioner (Ret) and a Registered Geotechnical Engineering Professional (Adviser) of The Institution of Civil Engineers.
Brian has worked in the areas of civil, structural, environmental engineering but concentrates in the area of underground engineering (geotechnical engineering) with over 30 years experience both as a contractor and consultant. This work has allowed Brian to work in many countries around the world on a variety of exciting projects, including the Birds Nest Arena for the Beijing Olympics, the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok, the Big Dig in Boston U.S. Prior to joining SETU, Carlow in 2006, Brian ran the Irish geotechnical practice of a large international engineering consultancy.
Brian continues to work as a consultant in the area of geotechnical on Irish and international projects and tries to bring this experience and close links with industry into his lectures in Civil Engineering and Construction.
Outside work Brian has a keen interest in motorbikes - cross country touring in Europe and U.S., mountain biking and hill walking in the Dublin and Wicklow mountains and often limps into lectures because he is not very good on the steep trails on his mountain bike.
