Welcome to SETU Healthy Campus

Welcome to SETU Healthy Campus

At South East Technological University (SETU), we believe that health and wellbeing are essential to achieving our mission of excellence in education, research, and community engagement. Our Healthy Campus initiative is guided by the principles of the Okanagan Charter and the Healthy Campus Charter & Framework for Ireland, embedding a holistic approach to wellbeing across all aspects of university life.

What is Healthy Campus?

Healthy Campus is about creating an environment where every member of our community, students and staff, can thrive physically, mentally, socially, and environmentally. It means integrating health and wellbeing into our teaching, research, services, and operations, ensuring that wellbeing is not an add-on but a core part of who we are.

A Significant Milestone

In 2025, the launch of the Limerick Framework for Action: Advancing Global Health Promoting Campus Agenda marked a major step forward for health and wellbeing in higher education. Building on the Okanagan Charter, this new international framework provides clear, actionable guidance for embedding health, equity, and sustainability across campus life. It reflects global best practice and reinforces Ireland’s leadership in promoting health and wellbeing in higher education settings. SETU is proud to align with this vision and contribute to this transformative movement. [hea.ie][wellbeing.ubc.ca]

Date and significance of SETU’s commitment.

Date and significance of SETU’s commitment.

On 15 October 2024, SETU formally signed the Healthy Campus Charter, marking a major milestone in our commitment to fostering a culture of wellbeing across the university. This signing represents SETU’s pledge to embed health and wellbeing into every aspect of campus life—academic, social, environmental, and operational. Endorsed by university leadership and guided by the Healthy Campus Framework set out by the Higher Education Authority (HEA), the Charter reinforces our dedication to creating a supportive, inclusive, and health-promoting environment for all students and staff. Inspired by global wellbeing initiatives and shaped through extensive consultation with staff, students, health professionals, and national partners, the Charter serves as a cornerstone for SETU’s continued efforts to prioritise holistic wellbeing and make health an integral part of everyday life at the University.
