SETU’s Dr Mary Doyle-Kent was recently awarded Science Technology Engineering and Maths (STEM) professional of the year in the Network Ireland Waterford Businesswoman of the Year Awards 2025.
Dr Doyle-Kent is also a recent runner up for the Employee of the Year at the County Wexford Business Awards 2025. She is Head (Waterford) of the Department of Engineering Technology at SETU and a role model for female engineers in the region. Prior to her current role, she worked as a lecturer within the University’s mechanical and manufacturing engineering disciplines for over 25 years.
Speaking about receiving this award, Dr Doyle-Kent said, “I’m thrilled to accept the Science Technology Engineering and Maths (STEM) award from Network Ireland Waterford. It’s wonderful to be recognised amongst others who are carrying out excellent work in their respective fields. This recognition will spur me on to continue my work in the field of engineering, and the outreach work that I am so passionate about.”
Throughout her academic career, Dr Doyle-Kent has been committed to promoting engineering to primary and secondary school students across the region, with particular focus on encouraging female students to pursue engineering studies. Additionally, Dr Doyle-Kent has worked in various engineering roles in industry, both in Ireland and in France.
The Network Ireland Waterford Businesswoman of the Year Awards 2025, held at Waterford Castle, was a fantastic celebration of the talent of Waterford's finest businesswomen. The event truly embodied a "collaborate to elevate" experience, shining a spotlight on the remarkable achievements of professional women in the region.
With 37 finalists across eight categories, the awards highlighted the incredible talent and innovation within the local business community. The recognition given to these dedicated individuals, and the collective spirit of collaboration within Network Ireland Waterford, is a source of inspiration for others.
Winners from the Waterford branch will now go on to represent the southeast region at the Network Ireland National Awards in Killarney on 26 September 2025.
