Dr Colman Noctor, a lecturer in the Department of Nursing & Healthcare, School of Health Sciences at South East Technological University (SETU) Waterford will be presenting at the International Initiative Mental Health Leadership (IIMHL) Conference 2022 on 27 October.

IIMHL

The IIMHL brings together and connects mental health leaders to help spread innovation and best practice to improve mental health and addiction services around the globe. The Leadership Exchange is a week-long learning event which is held every two years. This year’s event will include a series of network meetings devolved into three Regional Hubs:  Australasia / Pacific Islands (Christchurch, NZ), North America (Washington, DC) and Europe (Dublin, Ireland) focusing on the themes of Valuing Inclusion, Resilience and Growth.

Speakers will include Jacinda Arden Prime Minister of New Zealand, and Mary Butler TD, Ireland’s Minister of State in the Department of Health with responsibility for Mental Health and Older People.

Youth Mental Health

Dr Noctor’s presentation on the topic of Youth Mental Health will provide an overview of current mental health issues for young people in Ireland. He will share the stage with Member of the European Parliament, Maria Walshe. He will discuss the impact of the pandemic lockdowns on young people's emotional and social health and the rise in childhood anxiety.

“It is a great honour to be a part of this important event featuring so many prominent speakers given the need for more productive discussions about the mental health needs of young people", said Dr Noctor.

The event is open to IIMHL members including leaders and emerging leaders at all levels, who want to make a difference in mental health, substance use and disability across the world: persons with lived experience, family members, carers, community workers, executives, policy analysts, researchers, clinicians, board members
