South East Technological University (SETU) is proudly celebrating outstanding national recognition at this year’s National Diversity and Inclusion Awards, marking a significant milestone in the university’s ongoing commitment to building a more inclusive and compassionate academic community.
Dr Sarah Sartori, Higher Education Strategic Project Lead, was named Employee of the Year, recognising her exceptional leadership and the profound impact of her work advancing inclusion, social justice and meaningful institutional change across SETU.
At the heart of Dr Sartori’s achievement is her leadership of the Palestinian Scholars Sanctuary Initiative, which expanded SETU’s University of Sanctuary programme to offer fully funded scholarships alongside comprehensive academic, and wellbeing supports for displaced scholars. Through this work, Sarah has helped transform lives while shaping a culture within SETU that places dignity, empathy and shared responsibility at its core.
SETU also celebrated national recognition for Róisín Shanahan, Sexual Violence and Harassment Prevention and Response Manager, who was shortlisted for the Emerging Leader Award. Through her pioneering trauma-informed approach, Róisín has significantly strengthened SETU’s prevention, education, and response frameworks, ensuring that supports are survivor-centred, accessible, and grounded in best international practice. Her work has positioned SETU as a recognised leader in this critically important area both nationally and internationally.
This national recognition marks a proud moment for SETU and strengthens the university’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that staff and students experience a campus culture defined by respect, opportunity and belonging.
