SETU and Waterford Local Community Safety Partnership (WLCSP) are proud that the Consent Matters Project has been shortlisted for the Best Collaboration Award-Domestic at the Education Awards and the Operational Excellence Awards 2026.
This recognition highlights the project’s positive impact on community engagement, education, and safety, showcasing the effectiveness of strong partnerships in addressing important social issues.
Consent Matters was developed in response to growing concerns across Waterford around rising sexual assault and domestic violence, identified through community engagement and supported by Garda data. In 2023, SETU and WLCSP secured €150,000 from the Department of Justice’s Community Safety Fund to create a targeted, evidence-based programme, built on a strong collaborative model bringing together academic, statutory and community expertise.
The programme is designed to educate young people across Waterford City and County on consent, respectful relationships, and personal safety, supporting prevention-focused education and promoting safer communities.
Since its launch, the project has engaged students across secondary schools, Youthreach centres, and further education settings, equipping young people with practical knowledge and communication skills to navigate relationships safely and respectfully. The initiative reflects a shared commitment among partners to tackle sexual violence and harassment through education, awareness, and collaboration.
