Taking place on Wednesday, 13 March, from 9 am to 3 pm, those considering a return to education are invited to experience the vibrant atmosphere of SETU’s Cork Road Campus in Waterford firsthand.
The free annual event will provide valuable insights into course options, campus facilities, and support services tailored to students’ needs.
Prospective students
According to Thomas Grinsell from SETU’s Student Life and Learning department, “The event targets prospective students who are over 23-years-old and are interested in studying on one of SETU’s many full-time CAO courses.”
“Whether you have already applied to SETU to study in September and want to become familiar with college life or you haven’t started your application process yet and want to find out more about your course options, this event will answer all your questions,” says Thomas.
Attendees will get the opportunity to meet lecturers, current mature students, speak to support staff, gain knowledge on supports available to SETU students, and take a tour of our Cork Road Campus.
Supports
Thomas understands that a return to formal education can be an intimidating prospect for some students. “This is a fantastic opportunity for prospective mature students to get a feel for college life. There can be many obstacles along the way for those returning to education after a long absence, but we want to ensure you that there are many supports along the way to make the transition to third level as smooth as possible,” he says.
SETU welcomes mature students from all over the country every year to the Cork Road Campus in Waterford. The majority of SETU’s mature students are based in the south east and commute daily from counties such as Waterford, Wexford, Tipperary, Kilkenny, and Carlow.
People who wish to apply for a full-time course at SETU can still apply to the CAO up until 1 May 2024 at 5.15 pm, which is the closing date for late applications.
Opportunities
The University also has many opportunities for part-time study and the Lifelong Learning team will be on-site to talk through part-time, flexible learning and Springboard options with prospective students.
The Try SETU for further education students will be held in conjunction with the Try SETU for mature students event on 13 March. The mature applicant event also precedes the annual Spring CAO open day in Waterford, which takes place this year on Thursday, 18 April from 6-8 pm.
