SETU is delighted to announce that our alumni are now eligible to register to vote in Seanad Éireann elections, as part of the new six-seat Higher Education constituency.
The new Higher Education constituency will come into effect for Seanad general elections from 1 June 2025, for a new six-seat ‘Higher Education’ constituency. This extends the previous franchise for electing the ‘Higher Education’ Senators to include graduates from SETU and our legacy institutions. Eligible graduates (the Qualification is limited to degrees - bachelors, masters or doctoral) in Ireland who are Irish citizens; and who are aged 18 or over can apply to register, closing date 23 January.
Key dates and information
- The closing date for registration will be 23 January 2025.
- New electors will be able to register online at Seanadvoter.ie or by submitting a paper form. Each application will be made to the office of the Chief Registration Officer (CRO) in the first instance either online or on paper and will be checked for identifying criteria including citizenship and age. This will then be verified by SETU.
- The first register for the Higher Education constituency will be published on 1 April 2025. That register will be the register in force for any election up to 1 June 2026.
