The Certificate in Health and Safety Practitioner Skill Development is a Level 9, 10-credit programme designed to develop the knowledge and practical skills required for contemporary health and safety practice.
The programme provides an introduction to workplace health and safety management, enabling learners to understand legal responsibilities, identify and assess risks, support compliance initiatives, and contribute to the development of safer working environments. It is suitable for individuals seeking to enter the health and safety profession, as well as those who have recently assumed health and safety responsibilities within their organisation.
The programme examines the principles and practice of occupational health and safety management, including hazard identification, risk assessment, accident prevention and workplace wellbeing.
Learners will develop an understanding of health and safety legislation, safety management systems, audit processes, accident investigation techniques, emergency planning and safety culture. The programme also explores communication and training methods, the influence of human factors on safety performance, and the relationship between employment law and workplace health and safety responsibilities.
Through practical assessments and case-based learning, participants will develop the ability to support health and safety management systems, conduct audits and investigations, prepare professional reports, and communicate effectively with employees and management.
Assessment is based on coursework and practical evaluation, with an emphasis on the application of knowledge to workplace scenarios.
The entry criteria for the following Awards at level 9 is that applicants progress from L8 major qualification with a minimum 2:2 or an equivalent professional qualification such as ACCA or CIMA.
All applicants will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Applicants who do not have a Level 8 qualification at a 2.2 award level and who have relevant work experience and or other certificates and qualifications may also be considered through the University's RPL procedures. Relevant professional experience may be considered and individuals will be assessed on a case-by-case basis through RPL procedures.
South East Technological University reserves the right to require applicants to attend for interview to determine their suitability for the programme.

It is particularly relevant for managers, supervisors, safety representatives and those seeking to develop a career in occupational health and safety.
Graduates will be equipped with the knowledge and skills required to contribute to workplace risk management, compliance activities, safety training and organisational health and safety programmes.
Successful completion of the programme may also support progression to further study in occupational health and safety and can contribute credits towards the IOSH-accredited MSc in Environmental, Health and Safety Management.
